Marrickville is the typical Inner West suburb, with an array of both low and high density residential, commercial and light industrial properties. It is a popular suburb for renters, primarily because of its close proximity to the Sydney CBD and fantastic transport system, which makes it very popular with white collar workers but also small business owners. Coupled with the many attractions and lifestyle it has to offer, Marrickville has now become a hotspot for renters over its close neighbours.

Rental prices in in the suburb vary, depending on the type, size and location of property. At any given time you could expect upwards of 200 rental residential properties advertised. They consist of a mixture of period single front or duplex houses (with no parking space), but also apartments ranging from the typical 1970’s red brick style to recent developments.

Rental prices for a typical 1 bedroom apartment in Marrickville range from $450 to $550 per week and 2 bedroom apartment would be around the $600 per week mark. Marrickville also boasts a number of houses, varying in condition and age, with rental prices ranging around the $700 pw and upwards of $800 per week.

Today, the suburb is the largest suburb in the Inner West Council local government area, seen by many as the melting pot of the Inner West.  Marrickville rests on the bank of the Cooks River, and is surrounded by iconic suburbs like Enmore, Newtown, Stanmore and St Peters on the north and Tempe, Earlwood, Dulwich Hill, and Hurlstone Park on the South and South West. A multicultural hub, only 7 km from the Sydney CBD, Marrickville is known for its bohemian lifestyle and arts scene, as well as it’s brilliant transport network of Buses and Trains. Marrickville is a culturally diverse suburb with over 40% of its residents born overseas. In the 2016 ABS Census the most common ancestries reported were English, Australian, Irish, Greek, and Scottish!

 

Lifestyle

Marrickville is famous for its thriving independent art scene, and is home to numerous cafes, restaurants and eateries from around the world. The abundance of restaurants and regular events held at the Addison Road Community Centre and complemented by the local nightlife of live music venues, such as The Factory Theatre, the Camelot Lounge and the Red Rattler, makes this suburb a unique part of Sydney.

Marrickville has a number of public and private primary public schools (such as Marrickville Public and Marrickville West, and St Brigid’s Catholic) and three secondary school, the best known of which is the famous Marrickville High.

With its many shopping options, such as the two Woolworths, an Aldi supermarket and the weekly farmer’s markets, and the many grocery stores, bakeries and delicatessens, the suburb is a foodies paradise.
